Tanasha Mahone is an educator and advocate for strong leadership
in education and policy. In addition to serving as a school based
MTSS/504 Specialist, she leads the Atlanta Urban Leaders Felowship
(ULF) as the Regional Policy Director. In this role, Tanasha empowers
and colaborates with cohorts of felows selected to research policy
ideas aligned with initiatives for local Atlanta City and Dekalb County
elected officials. As an urban educator, she began her career in
Atlanta and has served a diverse group of teachers and students in
various roles including the unique experience of living and working
abroad with the Japanese Exchange on Teaching (JET) program.
In 2011, Tanasha was selected as an Indianapolis Principal Felow and
worked as an Assistant Principal and Principal in Indianapolis Public
Schools for five years before returning to Atlanta as a classroom
teacher in the fal of 2017. In 2019, Tanasha was awarded the
Presidential Award for Excelence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
(PAEMST) and expanded her leadership and policy knowledge in 2020 as
a School Ambassador Campus Felow with the U.S. Department of
Education.
Tanasha holds a M.A. in Organization and Leadership with an emphasis
on school building leadership from Columbia University, Teachers
Colege and a B.A. in Public Relations from Alabama State University.
She enjoys volunteering, traveling, and reaching milestones with her
Peloton fitness groups. Tanasha is currently enroled at Georgia State
University and pursuing a PhD in Educational Policy Studies with a focus
on Social Foundations.
